QUEEN VICTORIA, The Grand Lobby - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

The Grand Lobby aboard QUEEN VICTORIA spans 3 decks, Deck 1 with the Purser's, Tours and Voyage Sales Offices; The Internet Centre and Connexions 1, Deck 2 surrounded by Café Carinthia, The Library, The Alcove with QUEEN VICTORIA's bell and Todd English [extra tariff dining] and Deck 3 with the Midships Bar, Card Room and Library upper level [See separate albums for these areas].

QUEEN VICTORIA, Queens Room - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

The Queens Room aboard QUEEN VICTORIA is double decked [Decks 2 & 3] just forward of the Grand Lobby to port. 1000 sq ft dance floor of inlaid wood, back lit glass panels & crystal chandeliers. The aft bulkheads are covered with murals by Clarissa Parrish - "The Queens Garden" inspired by views from Queen Victoria’s Osbourne House. Portraits of Victoria and Albert in octagon-shaped leaded glass panels by John Hardman & Company.
To starboard [Deck 2] across the walk through is the Queens Arcade. A seating area with a Marcus Hodge [after Sir Edwin Landseer] portrait of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert.
The three etchings in the Queens Room (one by Queen Victoria, one by Prince Albert and one by the two together of their dogs, Islay, Eos and Cairnach) are among the ship’s most treasured works. I did not find them, Black and white photographs of Queen Victoria, Albert, their children and grandchildren 17 - 19 October 2012

QUEEN VICTORIA, Commodore Club, Admiral's Lounge, Churchill's Cigar Lounge - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

QUEEN VICTORIA's Commodore Club forward Deck 10 with super views, but the bridge gets in the way of a bow view. Mainly in the usual browns it is semi-circular in shape with a raised bar area in the centre. Two murals by Jeremy Sanders of RUSSIA and PERSIA on the Thames and CAMBRIA and HIBERNIA on the Mersey. There are other Cunarder porthole images by Robert Lloyd and modern ship models of Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 encased in glass display cabinets..
At the stb entrance the walls are covered in QUEEN VICTORIA's inaugural visit plaques and a Gordon Bauwens painting of the 3 Queens Meeting at night in Southampton in June 2012, presented by Peter Shanks. However, although it appears a lovely piece, it is hung in such a position that is is impossible to view without any reflection from lights on the glass front.
The Admiral's Lounge just outside the Commodore Club stb has a couple of Stephen Card paintings.

Midships Lounge - aboard QUEEN VICTORIA, deck 3 to stb of The Grand Lobby
Café Carinthia – Deck 2 stb, Barry Rowe's painting of Crystal Palace by the atrium corner
Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar – Deck 2 stb "This Art Deco-influenced space is highlighted by a mural by famed painter Barry Rowe, who is best known for his Art Deco portraits of automobiles. Here, he depicts his interpretation of the Christening of Queen Mary"

QUEEN VICTORIA, The Golden Lion Pub - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

The Golden Lion Pub aboard QUEEN VICTORIA is on Deck 2 stb opposite the Empire Casino. Quite a dark room, but very popular and always quite full, even with people snoozing :) The pub lunches are tasty - see menu. Venue for many quizzes

QUEEN VICTORIA, Hemispheres - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

Hemispheres, Deck 10 fwd overlooking the Pavilion Pool. Marquetry floor with compass and a nautical themed ceiling [the outdoor giant chess set is above]. Nightclub venue with DJ and dancing from 21:30 each night. Dull, dismal and not a patch on QUEEN ELIZABETH's Yacht Club.

QUEEN VICTORIA, Britannia Restaurant, Lido, Winter Garden - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

Britannia Restaurant – The ship’s largest dining venue apparently "inspired by the dining car of the famed Golden Arrow that linked London to Paris. Art Deco, artwork, wall sconces and finishes that include polished wood and bronze mirror. The room’s focal point is a world globe by U.K. artist David Norris – stands ten feet tall facing the restaurant’s entrance. The dinner menus and some sample dishes.
The Winter Garden with retractable glass roof is Queen Victoria’s indoor / outdoor relaxation area, conservatory style, but not very inviting and the roof is too low - QUEEN ELIZABETH's roof is domed and much better. Used as a Lido Buffet overflow. Small bar area - $4.95 + 15% service charge for a fresh orange juice. Small 'stage' for band.
A handful of photos of Todd English [alternative restaurant] through the glass & outside, only as could not interrupt a meeting.
The Lido Restaurant - typical buffet with insufficient seating [by a long way! this led to people saving tables then going to get their food, which exacerbates the problem]; food could have been hotter and fruit fresher [referring to well past its best woolly watermelon] with limited breakfast on the last morning [no waffle/pancake/omelet station etc]. More 'Stars Aboard' type decorated tiles, but of more interest are a series of typical old fashioned seaside resort images, of where [does anyone know the views?] and who by? no plaques on these.

QUEEN VICTORIA, Empire Casino & Royal Arcade - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

The Empire Casino and Royal Arcade aboard Cunard Line's QUEEN VICTORIA. The Royal Arcade [shops, including the usual tables at various times along the hallways of 'sale' items] on Deck 3 [fwd of the Queens Room] overlooks the Empire Casino to port below on Deck 2. The two areas are connected by a rather overly 'grand' double curving staircase with a classically designed pillar clock by Dent & Co. [of Big Ben fame], the clockmaker to HRH Queen Victoria - October 2012
The Empire Casino ceiling features a trio of backlit leaded glass panels by John Hardman & Company.

QUEEN VICTORIA, Int Cabin Stateroom 4012 - Oct 2012
Oct 18, 2012

Very small, tiny even. Plenty of 1/2 length hanging space, but few shelves & only drawers in the bedside tables. Under bed storage added as an afterthought but a bit impractical. Fridge, safe, US 2 pin 110v & UK 3 pin 220v outlet, flat screen TV with too many channels to think about, only watch the route map & weather. All but useless hairdryer in the drawer beneath.
No storage at all in the bathroom, 2 tiny glass shelves & shelf under the basin. One small ledge in the shower which holds no more than the bar of soap [which disappears rather quickly too]. No dispensers. Gilchrist and Soames shower gel, shampoo, conditioner & body lotion in bottles which are barely enough to cover 2 showers. Cotton wool balls & buds. Water pressure was not good & temperature control all over the place. The cabin temp control worked fine. Bed very comfy & sufficient lighting. Pillow chocs still received on turn down. Anna the stewardess was very good. Hallways on deck 5 [blue] and deck 4 [red] and a passenger laundry room - Oct 2012
