| | P Massey | - German Maritime Museum - Open-Air Section

The German Maritime Museum (Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum - DSM) also has an open-air section, in centre of Bremerhaven between the Columbus-Centre & the Weserdeichpromenade. There are 10 vessels moored at the "Old Harbour" [Alter Haven] and others, along with various other maritime exhibits on land. The museum harbour of today gave its name to the first phase of construction for the city of Bremerhaven, which was founded in 1827 at the mouth of the river Weser. See http://www.dsm.de/edsm.htm One can wander around the open-air museum free, but to board the vessels one needs to purchase a ticket that covers the main building & all vessels except the U-boat. The website states the ships in the harbour can only be visited April 1 to September 30, but they were open on our trip. Unfortunately we did not have the time to go around all these.. next time. at the "Old Harbour" [Alter Haven] and others, along with various other maritime exhibits on land.
